Why Water Testing Matters

Understanding what is in your water is the first step toward making informed decisions about your home's water treatment. Here are some of the substances commonly found in tap and well water.

Chlorine & Chloramine

Common disinfectants used in municipal water. While they serve a purpose at the treatment plant, many homeowners prefer to remove them at the tap for better taste and smell.

Lead & Heavy Metals

Older plumbing may introduce trace amounts of lead or other metals into your water. Testing helps determine if your home is affected.

Nitrates

Found in some well water due to agricultural runoff. Regular testing is recommended, especially for homes with private wells.

PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances)

A group of man-made chemicals that have been found in some water supplies. Awareness and testing are growing nationwide.

Common Central Florida Water Characteristics

Central Florida's geology creates some unique water characteristics. These are common and treatable — not cause for alarm, but worth understanding.

Hard Water

Central Florida sits on limestone, which naturally dissolves into groundwater as calcium and magnesium. This leads to mineral buildup on fixtures, reduced soap lathering, and potential scale in pipes and appliances.

Iron Content

Iron is naturally present in Florida's aquifer. When levels are elevated, you may notice reddish-brown staining on sinks, tubs, and laundry. It is a common and treatable water quality characteristic.

Sulfur (Hydrogen Sulfide)

That distinct rotten egg smell comes from hydrogen sulfide gas dissolved in groundwater. It is a naturally occurring compound in many Florida wells and can be effectively addressed with the right treatment system.
